The Fruita Monument golf team qualified two players for state golf. Senior Blake Andersen will making his 4th straight appearance at the state golf tournament in October at The Colorado Springs Country Club. Andersen placed in a tie for 6th at the 5A Western Regional held at The Golf Club at Redlands Mesa. Blake shot a two over par 74 to complete a feat few golfers have accomplished over the years. At the same tournament Josh Stouder a sophomore will be playing in his first state tournament with a very nice round of 76 to place 8th in the regional tournament. Fruita as a team placed 4th behind winner Ralston Valley, Legacy, and Highlands Ranch. Proving that golf can be cruel, Seniors Sean Kennedy and Zach Nehm, 2017 state qualifiers, failed to make the cut.
This completed a very successful season for the Wildcats, They were tournament winners at Adobe Creek and Tiara Rado while placing in the top 4 in every tournament they played in this year. Fruita will lose Seniors: Blake Andersen, Sean Kennedy, Zach Nehm, Luke Oleson, Jared Nelson, and Augie Leudtke. These boys have had a very successful career for the Wildcats. The future appears bright as the Wildcats did win the District 51 JV tournament . Lead by Junior Brayden Kelley's first place finish and Freshman Kadeo Hayward's second place finish the Wildcats won the tournament over a strong field. With Stouder returning along with TJ Stelljes and Jack Vigil the Wildcats have a strong foundation for 2019.
Special thanks to all that made donations to the team and all the volunteers, and parents for their help with the team over the years.
